A Morning Routine

by: Nehemiah L. Hemingway

A new light shines and shadows change.
The night has vanished, a new day has come.

Nature busies herself like the morning before,
I busy myself like the morning before.

Stems straighten to welcome the bees,
I straighten as I stand up to...

The robin digs for her first meal of the day,
I make pancakes, bacon, and eggs.

Squirrels begin their hunt for nuts,
I, like many others, join the morning rush.

A family of deer drink from the glittering spring,
I drink my cup of coffee with sugar and cream.

This morning is like any other; for nature and for me.
I’m glad I can see this day. I’m glad morning welcomed me.

Family: The Influence

by: Nehemiah L. Hemingway

There are those in your life that comfort you and make you feel loved and those that actually love you. Sometimes you cannot distinguish between the two. No one really wants to be alone, so given the opportunity to be loved and accepted you ignore any possibility of it being a lie. There are people that believe that the family that you are born into is the only family option available, some make their own family trees, and others are taken in. Each situation, as in life in general, is due to a decision or circumstance. Sometimes the family that you are born into is not right for you; maybe you feel the least loved by these people. It is okay to formulate your own family. It is obvious that it can’t be helped what family you are born into; that is why some choose to create there own family: a close friend, a teacher, a church family, and yes, even a gang. No matter what family you choose, one must make sure that the decision is going to benefit you not only emotionally but spiritually, mentally, and physically as well. Some people end up with people that they felt would benefit them more, but ended up in far worse situations. Other times, you don’t realize that no matter what you have went through with your family that they love you more than you think they do. You end up turning your back on the people that truly cared for you and follow the wrong path or one more difficult. Most times people join gangs due to the path they eventually end up on. They feel as if their own family does not care for them, so why should they care for their own well being? They become lost and confused which forces them to make bad decisions.

You also have to realize that it is never too late to ask forgiveness from the one’s that really love you. It does not mean that the person is going to forgive you immediately, for you must realize that you were not the only one that was hurt. Sometimes family forces you to do things that you don’t feel that is honest and you feel hurt for doing so, but you feel that if your family wants you to that you must. Family can be cruel, dishonest, evil, ignorant, and care only of them self, but don’t believe that you have to follow the same path. Yet there are those that are raised to be that way from a young age. Given the opportunity to get out of that situation I suggest you do so. Most often you are so far in that a way out seems unlikely. Blame cannot always be put on others; one must realize when they themselves are at fault.

Influenced by those that lack the sense to care finding one’ self caught in the web of glorified lies and a life that has no rewarding end, unless death would be considered a worthy prize. Innocence flooded with false knowledge drowning in the world of sin and soaked by the wages of it all. Taking grip to a promise that doesn’t have a handle on itself. Searching for a way out; realizing that the blindfold was on the entire way in and hoping that those of truth and love are not just memories of a past life. Praying there remains a hand willing to guide the beaten spirit out of the maze of fear. Lost, but not forgotten, moving into a realm of loneliness believing it to be the end. The young and naïve misunderstand the ability in life to turn over a new leaf and be forgiven.

Bow Down, Satan

by: Nehemiah L. Hemingway

Satan is my enemy,
But sometimes I’m his friend:
Not because I want to be,
But because I sin.

You were cast out of Heaven
You’ll be tossed out of my life.
Prepare to be defeated.
Prepare to lose this fight.

You hang onto my weakness
To help yourself get by.
You don’t care if I live
Or even if I die.

At this moment, time is on your side
Soon it will come to an end.
You’ll no longer rule on this earth,
Due to the coming of my Best Friend.

You are nothing but a liar;
There is no promise that you keep.
All day you plot against me;
You taunt me in my sleep.

Almighty God is my Salvation,
Lord Jesus is my Best Friend,
One in the same Precious Ruler
That you will bow to in the End.

You had a chance of Holiness;
You blew it, what a shame.
I am a child of God
And I will forever praise His Name.

Still Searching...

by: Nehemiah L. Hemingway

Some people go on searching
For things that don’t need found;
What they need is right in front of them
Yet, the truth they go around.

One part says its wrong,
And another says it’s right.
It becomes extremely complex
When the outcome affects your life.

Sometimes you don’t have to ask,
The answer is sometimes there.
Why search far and wide,
When the truth is very near?

Some take lots of chances.
Others, never take the risk.
We only have one life to live,
Why not take advantage of it?

You Decide

by: Nehemiah L. Hemingway

A decision could be the end
or beginning of your life;
no matter what the outcome
at the time it seems just right.

The knowledge of the future,
to think what it may hold...
many are out there searching,
and others don’t want told.

Even though some can’t imagine
what waits far ahead,
sometimes agreeing with your heart
is better than debating in your head.

Not living your life
the way others want you to
leaves no better feeling
than you just being you.

They expect you to be perfect,
you could never do a wrong,
until they read your poems
or you tell them in a song.

You don’t need the criticism,
because of what you choose.
You have so much to gain
and them, nothing to lose.

So you took a risk,
Who cares? It is your choice.
There will always be spoken opinions,
what is stronger is: your voice.

A decision could be the end
or beginning of your life;
no matter what the outcome
at the time it seems just right.

Life, Not a Joke

by: Nehemiah L. Hemingway

This is life, and it comes with a price.
We have our ups and downs.
We have our smiles and frowns,
but the frowns do not have to remain.
There are other ways to subdue the pain
that you feel when you open your heart
and give way to that of the dark.
Questions will form because other hearts
are not torn like yours. One message
sent and another received, yet not the one
to change the thoughts
that have already started to rot
your mind. More deserved than you will
have the nerve to admit to yourself,
or anyone else for that matter.
You don't have to spend each day
broken, beaten, or shattered.
Each decision is yours; the outcome
will join you aboard this boat,
so why do you ask the Lord,
"Why me, what did I do?"
When the question more true
should be: "What must I do?"
In order to understand the lies
that have recently been in supply,
first wonder how many you are willing
to hear. There are few who care
enough to endure the load.
There are many who can’t endure
and are ready to explode.
After all, this is life and it comes with a price.
